Northants 2 v Lings

Another blinding result from the team on Tusday 25th at Lings.

John Maynard at number 4 took a little time to settle and seemed to struggle at times against Simon Yates' delicate shots, but his lifting of the pace and his overall better consistency saw John through in 5 games.

Tim Arthur at 3 was on the warm court at the same time against Simon Hughes and another long night loomed as Tim played his standard game in the first two by getting well ahead and then just squeeking through to win them in 10. He then came out in the third and to quote last year's captain, Andy Reuthe "bish bash bosh" 9-0, 3-0 and goodnight! Where did that come from? Wherever it came from Tim, very well done and make a note to think like that from game one next match!

Richard Balme, who has been gallantly "taking it for the team" for the last two weeks at number 2 came out with an excellent hard earned win against Joe Fulford in 5 games. A classic exhibition of Wiley coyote versus the Roadrunner but this time the coyote wins!
Meanwhile Ian Shirley at number 5 managed to find his form also for the first time this season to grind down Paul O'Dell in a close match to 5 games over an hour (the three Weetabix helped this week!)

.... and finally Steve Isles at number one yet again played a very tight and vigorous game (despite a bit of a purple patch in the middle!) against John Redding who was certainly not giving up as he demonstrated in the 20 shot rally at match point down (and he won it!). Steve finally depatched him 2 rallies later in 4 games.

Well done everyone - an excellent start which leaves us pretty near the top of the table.
