Northants Summer League team go down at Club Diana

Northants Summer League team went down 1-4 against Club Diana 2 on tuesday evening.

Richard Milverton opened at No 3 in his team debut for Harborough against Lloyd Riseley - although Richard started strongly, his opponent came more into the game and took the game comfortably 3-0, although Richard rued missing a number of volleys.

Meanwhile Andy Reuthe was racketballing (not sure this is a correct verb - but as this isn't GCSE English I will continue) - Diana's John Loasby is a regular racketballer as well as a decent squash player and despite a number of close rallies, the Club Diana player ran out a 3-0 winner.

Next up was Steve Avil at No 1 up against Cliff Stromdale - unfortunately Steve never really got his timing and consistency going and also went down 3-0.

Meanwhile the doubles featured Mike Turney and Steve Tew up against Carol Fosbrook and Paul Norris. Turney's strength and shotmaking allied with Tew's unconventional style, made for an ideal partnership once they'd worked out who was playing where on the court (maybe it would help to remember the pre-match discussion during game 1 !!!). The Harborough pairing made light work of the first 2 games (both 15/10) and narrowly lost the tiebreak in the third - however the momentum was regained in the fourth game and a 3-1 win was chalked up.

Finally on court was Pete Rhodes at 2 against Diana's captain Nigel Taylor. Pete started strongly and took the first game 15/7 - however Nigel fought back to level at 1-1. Nigel, who normally plays 4 for the 1st team, two divisions above where Pete played last year, then took a close 3rd game 16/14 in the tie break - the sheer effort Pete had put in chasing Nigel's shots down, meant that he was gone at this point and faded during the last game, going down 1-3 - top marks for effort though Pete.

Next up is Lings 2 away on Tuesday 31st May - hopefully we can break our duck.
