Leicester 1 vs London Rd

The Leicester first team played host to Leicester squash club this week. Despite winning 4 games out of the last 5 this half the team was still trailing in last place in the league and with a slim chance of avoiding relegation were keen to pick up a good number of points in the last two matches.

Mike Turney played fellow county O45 team-mate Dave Preston at number 5. After a slight lapse in concentration Turney dropped the second game but ran out a comfortable 3-1 win in the end.  Nitesh Mystry was no competition for Harborough's Mark Christison at number 4 who won his match in straight games.

At 3 Jack Turney played Rob Britton who had defeated Turney by three games to one in the first half.  Turney has been playing his best squash in recent weeks and won the first two games with a confident performance.  Britton fought hard in the third game and Turney lost a little of his poise but scrapped it out well to win the match 3-0.

Steve Ward faced county under 19 number 1, Josh Taylor.  Ward won the first convincingly to 5 points but was buried at the back of the court thereafter and lost 3-1.

Martin Geear was up against a tough opponent in the form of James Wright the current county champion.  Wright's court coverage is superb and very annoyingly he has a dinky drop that clings to the side wall and is next to impossible to play.  Geear fought hard but lost 11-3, 11-8, 11-6.

Next week is the last match of the season and the team face Loughborough students at home.
