Northants Summer League team edge Cripps 3-2

Yet another 3-2 result saw Harborough edge Cripps 2 at Northampton General.

Stepping in for the injured Andy Reuthe to play an extra rubber, Steve Avil started proceedings in the racketball against Bob Fielding. Steve played extremely steadily and won to 6,6 & 7 in taking the rubber.

Next on was Earl at 3 and it's only right that he wins the Earl Harrison VFM award, although unusually for Earl, it only took 4 games against Rich Fielding - despite dropping the first game, Earl clawwed back a 7/14 deficit to win the second 16/15, which set him up for a 3-1 victory with all four games going to the tiebreak.

Barrie Dowsett and Steve Tew took on Dave Featherstone and Cliff Armstrong in the doubles, with the Cripps pair taking a 2-0 lead, Barrie and Steve fought back in the next to pull one back, but Cripps closed out the rubber 3-1.

Steve Avil then took to the court for his 2nd game of the evening at 2 against young Tom Shaw and indeed started well, taking the first game. However the youngster started to take control and despite some never say die court coverage and retrieval from Steve, he was unable to prevent a 1-3 defeat. It was a sweet win for Tom, given that Steve used to coach him !

With the match score level, it was down to Mike Turney to get Harborough over the line again at 1 against Martin Shaw. Mike played solid squash and closed out the match quickly, seemingly not suffering from his "Blobby Eyes" this week.

Next up Saints 1 away Tuesday 21st June.
