After a promising start, Melvin went from looking like he should win to loosing 3-2, whilst Steve Avil on the other court managed to beat his opponent, a younger, fitter lad, 3-0.
Next up was Richard Balme, who won comfortably, confusing his opposition with his usual game! Meanwhile the youth policy (Nick Crossley) was confident he knew what he was doing, as he went 3-0 down to a teenage girl!
That left skipper, Martin Thompson to play the decider against a man who held the racket more strangley than himself! Obviously it was an effective grip as Martin went down 3-0.
